I am sitting here smiling like a hyena and fighting back tears of joy. After almost 5 years of arduous work. The first draft of my Original Musical is completed. "Retail The Musical" has been my passion project on and off for years. It has been my therapy and my nightmare, but now today, I find myself enamored at my accomplishment. I have finished draft one.
So what now? Well, now I go through all of the songs and make sure the formatting is all the same, add dynamics and things, get the character ranges throughout the songs of the show, and put it together into a book. I give the script a good, critical read of all 114 pages, and make sure it is there and print that book. Then I find a way to do a reading. I am thinking January 2023, since it would just be learning the music and speaking the lines in the reading with no staging. From there, get feedback, and work towards getting a production on its feet.
I am very proud of myself for completing this project... well draft. I know that there is still some work to be done, but I know there is so much good in this show. It is upbeat, it is musical theater of a more classic sense, it is fun, the characters are lovable and memorable, the situations are relatable. So by now you are probably wondering how can you hear some of it. Well I do have some demos, if you can stand to hear me attempt to sing them. Granted since I have made these demos, some things have changed in terms of lyrics, but the gist of the song is there.
As I work to get the reading on its feet, stay tuned and I will see when I get the table read on its feet, I may be able to invite you. Or if you want to be a performer in the table read let me know too. But for now, you can hear some of the show below. Definitely treating myself to a fancy ass dinner tonight because this moment is HUGE!!!
A lot of other things have happened since my last post, but honestly this is the cherry on top of amazing things. I am looking positively towards the future of this show...... and already planning the next several.
